CONCRETE SHOW 2010 presents Concrete roads and highways:
the high-durability construction system |
|
Much used until the 1970s, and resuming in the 1990s, concrete surfacing is a high-durability construction system, appropriate for paving of roads and highways with heavy, intense, channeled and repetitive traffic, such as bus lanes, ports, airports and highways.
Of the total of nearly 1.7 million kilometers of Brazil's highways, only 165,000km are surfaced, and 74% of these are in conditions described as very bad, bad or deficient. Only 4% of Brazil's surfaced roads are paved in concrete.
These figures show the enormous potential for use of concrete in recovery and widening of Brazil's highways, especially those with heavy traffic.
Works recently paved in concrete in Brazil include: the duplication of the BR-101 Northeast Federal Highway, the Mario Covas Greater São Paulo Beltway, the São Vicente Coastal Mountain Highway, and several kilometers of city corridors all over Brazil, particularly in the cities of Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, Brasília and São Paulo.
The role of Concrete Show is to strengthen and leverage the construction industry as a base for the launch of products, equipment and services from Brazilian and international companies, helping government agencies in the development of the country's infrastructure – including highways, hydroelectric plants, ports, airports, telecommunications systems, water distribution networks and sewage systems.
